We are now even closer to our newest goal of ....
Books
Why are we needing 1000 books?
1) Funding is limited. Our library has empty shelves and an ever expanding student population (mostly due to the phasing in of the Early French Immersion program) and there are no additional resources in sight.
2) Many (many!) of the books that we do have are either outdated in their content or are in disrepair. It's 2016 and we need to keep up with the times folks!
3) We have a diverse population at the school (so awesome!!) and we need to continuously consider the diversity of our book collection, as a result. We have all ranges of reading levels in each grade, due to English as a second language needs, but our ESL books are very limited. We also want to insure the diversity of content in our books so that there are options re: story lines and characters -- so that all kids can find something inspiring to relate to.
4) For many kids, our library is their sole access point for books. The public libraries are too far to walk to and difficult to access for many kids as a result. We need to make sure OUR library can inspire these young minds.
And one last reason....
Because our community needs to have a good news story now, more than ever. As reported in the news, it has been a difficult time for our community recently and we need to show Ottawa what Carlington is REALLY made of!
How can we take our goal to the next level?
1) Spread the word! Tell your friends that Pinecrest Chapters is accepting donations with every in-store purchase and share our links with your friends online!
2) Go Online! Buy a book (or two, or three, or four...) for W.E. Gowling online - They take no percentage. It all goes to our library! https://adoptaschool.indigo.ca/eng/schools/1199
3) Please try to thank those who have taken the time to donate books and/or write stories for W.E. Gowling. You can do this, by clicking on the hearts beside their donations (see example below). The heart will turn red once you have clicked on it. It's like a virtual warm hug! Give it a try!
